Project Goal Summary
As a member of the Climate Action Plan Committee in Whitefish, MT, we work with City Staff and Climate Smart Glacier Country (a local non-profit) to evaluate the City’s energy use and propose specific projects, benchmarks and other recommendations to conserve energy in the City. The Committee may also propose actions to enhance community resilience and prepare for the effects of climate change.
The CAP will be released on Earth Day 2018 and consist of chapters on Buildings and Energy Use, Water and Wastewater, Transportation and Land Use, Forests and Watersheds, and Consumption and Waste, in addition to a collaborative chapter featuring the school district.

Project Goals and News
It is difficult to write a plan for a city using an all-volunteer committee. However, even though we are constructing a multi-faceted approach to climate change and resiliency, we have been able to divide the work and piece together a strong and doable guideline.
There is little funding involved in this plan except for some minor city council funds that will be used for printing and design. Our committee consists of city staff, non-profit partners, and business owners with a focus on sustainability.
We are also working with the high school marketing class to construct a marketing plan for this CAP. This will help it reach a broad audience and be accepted by groups that would otherwise be resistant to local climate actions.
