Consumption and Waste

The Silver Leaf Certification is a campus-wide initiative to promote recycling at student organization and administrative events. While there is a presence of recycling containers on campus, these are often unused for the large-scale events that generate the most amount of material.

This program is in collaboration with the campus' Office of Waste Management & Recycling and the Office of Capital Planning & Space Management, to ensure that there is a smooth and continued operation despite transitions in student participation.

It works by giving organizations an opportunity to request for recycling containers when reserving space for their events. Once that request has been made, along with the corresponding event details, the Office of Waste Management sends down the appropriate containers for the event and picks them up right after.

Once it has been confirmed that recycling was actually done, the organization is awarded a 'Silver Leaf', making them part of an elite group of organizations that are environmentally conscious and can brand themselves to be so.

These 'Silver Leaf' organizations receive a large amount of visibility through our, partnering organizations' and the campus' websites, boosting their recruitment and campus image.
