Project Goal Summary
We created this project because there are many families in the United States that do not have access to fresh produce. Our project focuses on gathering fresh produce and distributing it to the students at our school. About 92 billion pounds of food is wasted each year in America. We are hoping to reduce that number even if only by a small amount. Our plan was to get our produce from grocery stores because 30% of food in grocery stores is thrown away. Most of the food that gets thrown out is fine to eat but gets thrown out because it may not look “pretty.” We also got our produce from people who wanted to donate. In the year 2023, over 50 million people turned to food banks, food pantries and community organizations to help their families get healthy, affordable food. We want to make sure students have access to healthy, nutritious food. By reducing food waste and promoting eating healthy, we aim to create a supportive and sustainable system within our school community

Project Goals and News
We had an event called EcoPop which was a success. We had to make our own game that related to our NWF project, and we made a card game about food waste called Waste Warriors. We wanted to reach out to grocery stores to ask if they could donate to our project. The challenging part is that they either didn't respond or denied our request. We have reached out to more grocery stores because of this. We have a group called the Composting and Collecting Crew in order to help with our mutual problem of not having produce. The project is being funded by our teacher, Mrs. Hamasaki, and the group members. We are communicating using an Instagram page that we made so we can spread awareness about our project and food waste. Our goal is to educate people on how
