Environmental justice addresses historical and systemic injustices that have deprived people of color, low-income households, women, and children of access to meaningful solutions. Understanding social determinants of health and equity is essential for developing inclusive and ethical interventions, aligning with the goals of environmental justice. As a U.S. immigrant from Ethiopia, I have a profound connection to immigrant communities, as they have played an integral role in shaping my life and experiences. Too often, our neighborhoods bear disproportionate effects of environmental consequences, from air pollution to limited access to green space, exacerbating health disparities and diminishing quality of life. My passion for environmental justice stems from a deep-rooted belief in the transformative power it holds for communities. Exploring crucial questions like what's at stake if environmental justice prevails, cultivates the courage to champion sustainable practices, and empowering communities to align their actions with their values. 

Using evidence-based preventative public health interventions to address health disparities and improve the well-being of underserved populations harmoniously aligns with my aspirations, both personal and professional. This approach to understanding the value of caring for people through restoration and protection truly strengthened my belief and commitment to environmental justice. I hope to give back my unique perspective, skills, and cultural competence to make a sustainable impact on the health and well-being of underserved communities. In light of this, I am drawn to not merely envision a better world but actively contribute to its realization.
