Hello, my name is Genelle Wallace, and I'm a Senior at Leuzinger High School! I'm apart of the Environmental Careers Academy, and this project is an extension of what we've been working on at school. My Eco Leader interests and goals are to obtain my NWF certification by working on a project my group and I started to help reduce plastic waste. Our project focuses on getting companies to transition from plastic packaging to sustainable alternatives to protect wildlife and ecosystems. To gain support and awareness, we created a Instagram page dedicated to educate others about the degrading effects of plastic waste, and flyers associated with our Eco-friendly Jewelry Making Workshop around school to get students to participate. We also encourage both businesses and individuals to prioritize sustainability in their daily lives, whether it's by supporting Eco-friendly companies or reducing their own plastic use. This project has taught me that communication, consistency, and teamwork are extremely valuable to our success. We've dealt with a delay of materials, and with the establishment of our idea as a whole. Regardless of those struggles we persevered together! Lastly, a fun fact about me is that I love skipping rocks whenever it rains :)
