NWF ECOLEADER SPOTLIGHT
Phil Aroneau
Co-Founder, 350.org; Chief Strategy Officer, DAYENU
NWF Fellow
Project: As an NWF Fellow, Phil established a vermicomposting system at Middlebury College in a pre-existing college greenhouse producing fertilizer from campus dining hall waste for campus and community organic gardening. The project was fully integrated into the campus’s organic garden and the worms are now under the care of two paid garden interns and other student volunteers.
Phil’s Career Journey: Phil has gone on to become a highly-regarded organizer and political strategist. He co-founded350.org, where he helped launch and run dozens of efforts, including the campaign against the Keystone XL Tar Sands pipeline, the Fossil Fuel Divestment campaign, and the People's Climate March. He directed Bernie Sanders’ 2016campaign in New York, helped mobilize millions to the streets and the ballot box after the 2016elections, and directed digital organizing at the American Civil Liberties Union. Phil has also consulted and managed a variety of global, national, and state-level electoral and advocacy efforts. Currently he serves as Chief Strategy Officer at DAYENU: A Jewish Call To Climate Action.
Phil on his NWF experience: The NWF [Fellowship] program is like a Petri dish for innovative projects run by youth leaders. It provides them a springboard to reach for the game-changing solutions that our ecological crises require.
