Native Lawns in Florida

I am looking to have a large grass field on my campus filled in with native grasses to increase biodiversity, but not sure where to begin. Any advice?

Great idea, Allison! I think a great place to start would be to have a conversation with the campus grounds team and/or sustainability department. I would also suggest checking out our guide, The Campus Wild to see other examples of campuses that converted campus grounds to support native plants and wildlife habitats. I look forward to following along on your effort!

Hello @Allison Kowalik, That sounds like a fantastic initiative to increase biodiversity on your campus! A step to get started would be assessing the soil and existing conditions, identifying native grass species suited to your region, and determining the best planting and maintenance practices. Have you looked into any local conservation groups or university departments that could provide guidance or support?
