In reflecting on your experience in earning this badge, please share some of your thoughts on what you most enjoyed about this process and if there are any ways you think it could be improved. What was your biggest take away?
While earning this badge, I was also taking an environmental justice college course, which supplemented my learning. Before researching about environmental justice, I did not realize how many communities are unequally burdened by environmental hazards, such as landfills and water pollution. Also, I learned the importance of voting and ensuring laws are put into place that protect marginalized communities from environmental burdens. Finally, after using EJScreen, I learned that many communities near me face high cancer risks from air toxins and are very close to hazardous waste sites. Overall, I thought this process was organized very well. I liked learning more about environmental justice and sharing the information I learned with people in my community to promote change.
