My Eco-Mission:
I currently have four missions:
(1) Getting every restaurant on the barrier island where I live to begin composting. To that end, I met with my U.S. Senator last week in Washington, D.C. to discuss the benefits of composting and to obtain additional policy points for this issue. I have scheduled a meeting with the Mayor of my city to propose a local ordinance requiring restaurants to utilize composting.
(2) Working to preserve the beaches on the barrier island where I live. This includes weekly beach cleanups and once-weekly clean-ups surrounding the area where food trucks park near the bay. The litter left behind from the food trucks causes significant risks for the Bay and the marine life there, and so I organized a team of students who go to clean up the area each week.
(3) Generating support for the protection of manatees in Florida. Since being downgraded from the Endangered Species list, manatees lack the same protections they were previously afforded. I have met with political leaders in my State and have a social media outreach program that is currently in full force and effect.
(4) Developing an app so that consumers can see the carbon footprint of the company or manufacturer prior to making purchases.
